The many roles of a small business owner

From the outset of Daisy & Joy I knew I wanted to learn how to do as many parts of the processes myself as I could, all from my little desk. This has included, the obvious of designing, printing and packaging all my prints and cards, but also I have had to learn about how to market my products, create social media content, photograph the D&J product range, develop a cohesive brand identity that reflects my style and the impression I want D&J to portray, creating and processing invoices and managing finances, setting up websites and my favourite part of all, customer relations, chatting with you guys!

I love getting to chat with you guys about the ideas you have in mind for your homes or gifts for your friends & family and making those ideas a reality.

I have to admit that creating social media content and the photography of the Daisy & Joy range of products have been the two most challenging parts and steepest learning curves of developing this small business.

Although in the struggle to develop these skills, I have found a love for photography that I didn’t know I had. The image here is a little layout of the prep that goes into a photography session, including that ever important cup of coffee!

I have loved decorating and styling my own home and I have found that same enjoyment from styling shots like the selection below. Incorporating different backgrounds, textures, materials and colours into the shots and playing around with the layouts is a very time-consuming process but I find it is so worth it when I see the final image.

Creating content for social media on the other hand I think will always be struggle. Social media is crucial these days for any and all small businesses to grow. To do this the content has to be visually appealing, entertaining, and engaging, this is another very time-consuming but worth it process.
